*The scene opens with Chad Lights standing in a corner discreetly looking at something on his cellphone, he has raised eyebrows, dilated pupils and a little drool accumulating on his bottom lip.
People are walking passed, largely ignoring the short man and his cellphone, Chad hears a door shut opposite him and looks up, quickly putting his phone away in his jean pocket as The Ace walks passed him.
Chad starts to follow The Ace and calls after him...*
Chad: Hey, Ace! Ace! Can I get a few words about our thoughts going into the Riot match?
*The Ace stops and turns around with a sigh at this opportunistic vulture, all he wanted to do was to not be bothered right now...*
Tell me Chad, do you make a habit out of hanging around outside the Gents waiting for your next interview now?
*Chad only now realises where he'd been standing the entire time enjoying Brad Kane's latest visually stimulating promo - opposite the hotel bar restroom, no wonder he was being ignored by everyone...*
Oh God, he must think I'm a pervert...
Chad: No, I didn't even realise where I was for a second...
*Chad starts to walk away as The Ace shakes his head disbelievingly, following The Ace back to his table, asking his first question as they walked, hoping not to dwell on the whole restroom issue too much...*
Chad: How'd you feel about Lance Ryan costing you the match this past Sunday?
*The Ace waits until he has sat back at his table, opposite his wife who is drinking some orange juice, being pregnant her options were limited here, she looks at her husband with a sigh...*
Sorry honey, he followed me...
*The Ace turns to Chad as he takes a seat and Chad rephrases his initial opening question...*
Chad: So, as I was saying...do you think what happened at Collision affects your chances in the Riot match this Sunday?
Lance Ryan is the definition of rampant ego and diminishing skill. He needs to understand one thing going into this match and understand it well:
Disappointment is often the price of ego.
Joe and I both went out there fuelled by our egos, and I think we both ended up rather disappointed, Joe was so adamant that he would beat me and that he would change me, yet he didn't and he hasn't. I'm not so disappointed because I told him the National Championship wasn't my primary concern...
The Riot Match is.
Chad: Everybody in this business has an ego though, don't they?
Indeed they do Chad, and unfortunately for 29 of us, there will be nothing but disappointment after Transgression, 29 rampant egos will be rapidly deflated in a matter of mere seconds...
*The Ace clicks his fingers as he speaks*
The seconds following their sudden elimination.
SNAP! Just like that 29 of us will become victims of opportunity.
Somebody else's opportunity.
Just as Joe and I were this past Sunday.
Lance saw his opportunity - and he took it.
I'm not going to bitch and complain about it, because if I was in his position, I would have done the same thing, in fact if I was a tired old glory hog reluctant to give up the spotlight and refusing to accept that I'm passed my prime, I would have done the same thing Lance Ryan did...
Chad: Some would say you are...
*The Ace glares at Chad who takes a hard gulp, regretting his words instantly, Chad immediately thinks up another question...*
Chad: Erm, what I mean is, isn't that the whole point of this match about seizing the ultimate opportunity?
Of course it is Chad, I'm not surprised you understand that - any man who'd take the risk of being caught outside a restroom waiting on an interview has got to understand opportunity at the very least, right Chad?
*Kathy looks slightly horrified at Chad, who looks ashamed*
I'll tell you who doesn't understand opportunity all that well, people like Angel who is now so preoccupied with being a saviour and on beating Falcon for the nCw World Heavyweight Championship that he chooses to dismiss the fact that even if he wins the Riot match, he might not get the opportunity to face Falcon...
Because Xavier Cross may seize his opportunity first.
Therefore beating Angel to the World Title.
Just like the rest of us nCw veterans already have.
But hey, Angel isn't the only one who has problems with his pet theories on the Riot match, so too does Bates. He seems to think that stealing my usual approach to matches automatically qualifies him to steal my glory, but the fact is I didn't talk about the chances in this match because any which way you look at them, they are insurmountable, and another thing:
If the supposed new me doesn't respect people.
Neither did the old one.
So nothing about how I work has changed.
Chad: Speaking of Bates, how'd you feel about him saying that you're breaking a promise to chase a dream?
*The Ace looks over to his wife and he can see from her eyes that she too was eager to hear his answer to this one, and he knew no answer would appease her so he went with the truth...*
It has been said that only those who are bold enough to chase dreams are the ones who catch them, but to be honest here Chad, for me it isn't about chasing a dream or breaking a promise...
But rather the opportunity to break the dreams of 29 others.
It is only by breaking those dreams that I can realise my own, and if that makes me selfish, then so is everyone else in this match, even people like Brad Kane who took his opportunity to cut a promo this week and somehow turned it into a pictorial shrine to the woman in his life...
Chad: Man that was a great promo...
*Kathy looks at Chad oddly, but The Ace ignores him*
In usual Brad fashion, he's out of words and is now just pissing his career away.
Speaking of pissing his career away, Zane seems to think that no man can change his destiny and yet in a complete one-eighty, he's seeking to change his destiny...
A destiny of definitive and consecutive failures.
A destiny of have nots.
A destiny of continually missed opportunities.
As a betting man, I'd say that's not about to change anytime soon, it is your destiny Jimmy to wake up on the 28th and tell the world...
"I have not won the Riot match."
"Just like I haven't won a lot of other matches."
Like father, like son.
Chad: What about Mr Red, he had some things to say about you lately...
Who?
Chad: Mr Red.
Who in the blue hell is that?
Chad: Someone who thinks that no one cares about you, and that you can't wrestle, and generally that he is 'betta' than everyone in nCw...
Oh you mean that masked piddly ass? All I've got to say to him is that he isn't the first guy to wear a mask and not concern me, before him was Daredevil and before him there was Homeless Harold, so you see I've seen all the masked cowards come and go and I don't care if he's Mr Red, Yellow or Orange, all I know is if I have to...
I will beat him black-n-blue.
Leaving him green with jealousy and envy.
Just like the 29 others.
You see Chad a lot of people disrespect me and will continue to do so going into this match, men like Rob Diamond, who still seem to think a collection of immature jokes is all it will take to win a match like this...
The irony, of course being, that he himself is the greatest immature joke of all.
It's about as immature as Bates being a five year old and suggesting that I'm copying him, you say you respect me Bates, but I know deep down you don't, just like most of the rest of them don't, infact the only person who's addressed me with some respect thus far is a man who impressed me this past week by dethroning Rob Diamond - Andrew Jacobsen...
This man not only understands opportunity.
He was capable of seizing it.
And he did.
He is a Champion now.
He is also an opportunist.
Just like myself.
Only the ultimate opportunist will succeed this Sunday.
The only question is which of us will it be?
I don't know, all I know is I'll see you all Sunday.
*Chad takes this as his cue to get up and leave as the scene fades out and The Ace starts shuffling a deck of cards , which had been left untouched infront of him for the entire promo...*
People are walking passed, largely ignoring the short man and his cellphone, Chad hears a door shut opposite him and looks up, quickly putting his phone away in his jean pocket as The Ace walks passed him.
